Weekly Resources | 5 Ways to Start Making Money from Blogging
Ready to learn how to make some money while blogging? I mean, who doesn’t?
It seems to me everyone start by thinking about ads first, truth be told, I'm not a fan of ads. Not only are the ugly, but they are super annoying. You know it's true, everyone thinks so. However, I do get they are a necessary evil.
Everyone I talk to about making money from their blog asks about ads. In fact, its one of the most common questions I get about using Squarespace. Yes, you can have ads on Squarespace, but there are much better ways to make money blogging.
My first paid blogging gig years ago was with a meal delivery company. The company sent me a week’s worth of meals and paid me! SCORE! I wrote a blog post with my honest thoughts (even the parts I didn't like) of the meals, shared a few pics on my instagram feed, and that was it.
Since this not my forte, I’ve rounded up a few really helpful blog posts from blogging experts!
For the record, Melyssa Griffin agrees with me about ads, there are much better ways to make money. What I love about this article, is that she breaks it down into three categories of making money.
- Promoting other people’s stuff,
- Running a service-based business,
- Creating and promoting your own stuff.
That means you can pick a style of monetizing that will work for you and your style of blogging.
For a lot of bloggers increasing your income from your blog is a major goal you are always working toward, one really awesome way to do this with appropriate affiliate links.
“There are tons of affiliate networks and affiliate programs for bloggers out there. You want to join affiliate networks and programs that will work for your niche.” says Daniella from I Like to Dabble (super cute blog title, right?)
Her lists of 22 easy affiliates for bloggers has some really great options for starting your affiliate relationships.
Blogging is not a get rich scheme, it takes a lot of work to build a following, however in my experience, it can be really rewarding. Abby Lawson from Just A Girl and Her Blog shares the same principals.
Abby does in fact use ads on her blog, but she uses them very tastefully to maintain trust with her readers.
In fact, she has a lot of helpful articles!
This one is a book! And only $10. Ruth Soukup is one of my favorite resources for all things blogging (and budgeting, she blogs at LivingWellSpendingLess.com). She runs Elite blog Academy, and I think I just might splurge on that course next year. I’ve been eyeing it for a while now.
I just started reading this blog, but I assure its great!
5. One of the quickest ways to get started making money is with Amazon Affiliates. I mean think about it, EVERYONE uses Amazon. Which means you don’t have to have to huge following to start making money, but as your readership grows you will make more money. Plus you can share the links on social media.
This post from Suzi Whitford at Start a Mom Blog is really helpful for getting started.
Just don’t forget to follow FTC guidelines for bloggers to keep your blog legal. Here’s a post that I found helpful for keeping on the right side of law.
